Oh...well, that made me cry...totally, totally heartbreaking. I can completely imagine that was what was in Ennis's head. How it should have been, if not for this closed society...

Catching up from three weeks away and just wanted to say that I really love how you've gotten into Ennis's head here; it's quite spot on, and I like the otherworldly feeling this 2nd chapter has taken on.

Your writing is beautiful and I really enjoyed the story thus far. Looking forward to the next two parts!

Thanks for such positive, encouraging comments, and everyone else's as well.

The next two chapters are taking longer than I expected, as they contain a lot of background info and a new character, but Chapter 3 is close to done. Jack doesn't appear in these chapters, but he'll be back in Chapter 5 and will be in the story off and on throughout. Mrs. Twist will also re-enter Ennis' life briefly a few chapters after that.

Wow - you handled that so well. I love that Ennis closed his eyes and gave himself over to the moment... he didn't get weirded out and 'bolt.' You are giving us perfect little glimpses of how he is changing and growing.
