It's hard to believe that as a Southern, Irish Catholic-ish female I have not read Flannery O'Connor before now. Granted: had I read her in high school I probably would not have appreciated it. it's been a while, but if i remember correctly, my favorite story was always the river.

Yes The River is wonderful. A dont think Ive ever read a story about a five year-old boy. So simple and funny.

im reading wise blood right now. coincidence? i think not.

i remember reading a good man is hard to find for an english class at vandy sophomore year but i don't recall the details. i guess that's next. you should check out wise blood.

Yeah -- it's included in the anthology that I'm reading, so maybe that will be next. There's also this great essay at the very end called The Catholic Novelist in the Protestant South which I highly recommend if you can find it. I imagine you fall somewhere along the lines of ex-Catholic, but even as an apostate I think you may find it quite interesting. It illuminated a lot for me, at least.
