"subculture" sucks

I have a real issue with bicycle snobs.  I mean what the fuck: Everyone rides bikes.
It doesn't make you any cooler.  Neither do music blogs, or French language skills, or abundant references to slasher films.  Get over it.

Lauren, thanks for the Tartt recommendation.  It's pretty good so far !

Underwater snack time.

you're welcome! it was recommended by a friend and i kind of like the idea of a recommendation pay-it-forward sort of thing.

also, i feel you on the bike snobs. and everything else snobs. but i find myself getting snarky sometimes too. i guess it's human nature to be proud and protective of what you know, but i think the thing is to keep it in check rather than joining a group of people who all think the same way and reinforce each others' superiority. this rambling would fall into the category of things i need to keep in mind.

hah i totally feel the same way as both of you. i was talking to a dude yesterday who i had just met; he was sort of the "rat patrol" or whatever bike gang you may have type. torn clothes, pieced-together bike. y'know. anyways, i started commenting on the snob issue and he was actually very receptive. i was surprised. i think it often is a group-mentality thing, as lauren hinted at.

Oh god, the Rat Patrol makes me laugh. They used to ride past our apartment on Elliston all the time and I didn't know who they were so we called them the Lost Boys. Suits them better, I think. I also accidently went to a Meemaw show at their house once.
