This stuff is amazing. The taxi driver commentaries and the old Jewish grocer from 1952 are worth it alone. The best part is that people still sound just like this in New York. For years, I've wanted to go out and do recordings like this, something like an urban Alan Lomax -- just record everyday people, their words, and their music.

And Marc you really, really should, you have a knack for getting stories out of people, especially older folks and vets. So many stories and lives these days get lost in the flummox and flow of modern life. I've always wanted to make a documentary like this but never had the nerve to just walk up to people.
BTW have you ever read Blue Highways by William Least Heat Moon?
