Women and foreheads

In reading classic literature, it generally struck me as a little odd how often a woman's forehead is praised by adoring men. A hundred years should go to praise thine eyes and on thy forehead gaze and all that. Mostly I just assumed it's because that for most of history, women's clothing has been fairly concealing, so there was a shortage of ( Read more... )

I had never thought of that connection with foreheads. It makes sense though - a blank, unwrinkled forehead as visible demonstration that your love isn't doing any of that unladylike thinking.

Gah.

As for the rest of it, I just say: Word.

If she's allowed to frown, she might frown at you. Ugh!

I know I read somewhere that the prevalence of botox heads in hollywood is changing the way actors behave- you've lost or significantly reduced one major way of displaying emotions, so you have to use other means, such as broader physical gestures to convey it. It's just so goddamn ironic that as CGI is giving us more realistic fake humans, humans are trying so hard to look fake.

So sad. I'd imagine that hi-def film and TV have added to the actor's phobias of a wrinkle here and there. Soon, we'll need a "subtitle emotion" to tell us what they are supposed to be showing.

Or they can start wearing masks which they change as the emotional tone calls for it.

"I've got some deep grooves developing at the top of my aging face, due to the amount of time I spend wondering what the hell is wrong with people?"

I admire this line.

Well the hair would only cover the forehead if the cut was one that produced bangs, wouldn't it?

I love freckles, and miss getting a good smattering of them as I'm trying to be more responsible about skin health. Freckles are adorable.

Even hair spilling over onto the face can still show a considerable amount of forehead. (Especially for those of us who *have* a considerable amount of forehead - see icon.)

Laugh lines and thought lines.

(Userpic selected because it's as suitable as any, and I think though thatliardiego will appreciate it.)

Oh, I like the term thought lines. I've also heard laugh lines called crows' feet, which is a term I actually like, but I'm a fan of crows as well.

I like you icon very muchly.

There's a sequel to Freckles written by Gene Stratton Porter's daughter, which is otherwise pretty awful but which has a nice bit where MacLean recalls his mother's advice to choose a woman who has a lot of laugh lines and a few thinking lines as well.
