So I'm in Beijing - the airport at least - but I can't access Facebook or Twitter, which I probably should have seen coming. BUT ANYWAY! To the three or so of my friends who still regularly read this, hello, I'm alive and safe thus far. But the trip is young ( Read more... )

Gel, jelly, or gelatinous appearing foods are often confiscated when you are inbound to the USA or outbound from the USA. There was a big fuss recently when a TSA guy (airport security checkpoint dude) confiscated a lady's cupcake for "being enough like a jelly to be suspicious." He got in trouble for it after the story went viral.

In general, if it's jelly-like, liquid-like, or pointy-like, TSA will give you shit about it.

Yeah, I figured as much, but I thought I'd give it a shot - would have been nice to have something less muesli-ish to go with my muesli bars. No great loss though, I got it for free on the flight. ;)

I wish so too! I'll be loitering around the SF area for a month or so, though - so if by some chance you wind up in the region, let ms know! :)

Glad to see that nothing is getting you down, even that "fog". Good luck with the continuing trip. When you get to the States, if you come through the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I'd love to meet up with you (even if it's just in passing at DFW airport).
