Passion No More

Jul 15, 2008 11:43

Something has fully dawned on me that makes me uncomfortable, and with a growing need of resolve. For the life of me I cannot think of anything that I currently have a strong passion for in life. Sure, there are things that I greatly enjoy doing, but nothing that stirs me and drives me down to the core of my being. It hasn't always been this way ( Read more... )

I know what you mean. I often feel like I've lost my dreams, my passion. I feel like I live from one need or appetite to another. I still try to be nice to people and to be a good, moral person. But that's not the same as having a goal or a passion or purpose.

A song lyric says:

When we're young in dreams we trust
Maybe growing up is just
Kissing certain dreams goodbye.

I think there is some truth to that. But I want to believe that we can always find new passions.

Those lyrics are amazing. What song are they from?

There is something to be said about feeling balanced and content in life and mostly if not totally free from drama, but part of me says that one must live in suburbia in order to justify such an existence (see American Beauty, or Pleasantville).

I totally think we can find new passions, no matter how old we are or where we are at in life. But I wonder if it's not a matter of us finding passions, or passions finding us, but of both sides finding each other? (*contemplates*)

The lyrics are from the title song to "Same Time, Next Year," a film with Ellen Burstyn and Allen Alda. Synopsis, lyrics, and video clip (that includes some of the song) are here:

You haven't been on your hiatus that long, you're still recharging your batteries, creatively and spiritually. When you're ready you'll burn again. It's not something you can force or rush. Much love for you.

An excellent point. Right before I read this I sent to a friend of mine, "Fortunately, I am at a point finally this year where there is no major drama or uber stress going on in my life. Things are becoming extremely balanced and grounded in my life. Maybe I should focus on that for awhile, then look to launch off exploding into something."

Maybe it's because I'm so used to always being on a go and always having some project to plan or event to work on that, now that I have removed myself from that system, I find myself at a loss.

Will you remind me to come back to this post? I'm scrolling down my friends page too quickly to put the thought into my response that I would like to right now. <3

Lack of passion or just handling your emotional ups and down better than you used to? When you were a teen-ager. And everything was OMFGWTF!!!1 ( ... )

lol! You raise good points. I do know that I am a much calmer person on the inside than I was 8 years ago. My journal entries on here and on paper can testify to that! Great food for thought, my friend.

Hmmm I've always been passionate for helping people, and speaking up for those whose needs aren't being met. Often through community service. How I help has varied over the years. Currently it comes out through my service as a Sister, and by helping transition a couple local groups I founded over to new leadership.

Oh and I love drumming and doing things with my friends and family. I've put those on the back burner to some extent while starting the Sisters here, but I have recently begun refocusing on those to some extent so I don't lose them completely.

Good call, hon! I let my other passions go when I started getting super involved with the Sisters, which was a mistake. Never lose that which makes you enjoy life! Granted, some things can be let go, but to let everything go and just focus on one aspect of life can lead to discontent, obviously.
