Passion No More

Jul 15, 2008 11:43

Something has fully dawned on me that makes me uncomfortable, and with a growing need of resolve. For the life of me I cannot think of anything that I currently have a strong passion for in life. Sure, there are things that I greatly enjoy doing, but nothing that stirs me and drives me down to the core of my being. It hasn't always been this way ( Read more... )

Loving you, too! I like your idea. I'll have to look back and see what I can do to start, and then branch out from there.

After reading your post, I'd say be careful, you busy bee, you! Don't burn at both ends for too long! Get them SD bitches to pick up some shifts, god damnit! ;o)

touchmedirty has it spot-on I think. You were on hiatus from the sisters due to burn-out. You don't just recover from that sort of exhaustion after a good nap. It takes some time.

Follow your bliss and you'll either rediscover those passions you put in the fridge (they may be a bit moldy on top by now, but you can always peel of the top coat and... oh bugger this metaphor is getting out of control, but you get the idea) or you'll discover new ones.

The biggest thing I can say is don't force it. Just get out there and try new things or try things that you haven't done in a while, but just ENJOY doing. You'll find the Grande Passions again :)

Really good points, and yeah, touchmedirty does bring up a great point. (*sigh*) Damn patience. :) Like my roommate said, I should enjoy not having a thousands things on my plate for once while it lasts!

Seeing as you have a fairly extensive list of former passions that you could choose from...it seems like if you loved them then, you would probably love them again. Plus, you would start connecting with people who have similar passions to you, and the possibilities would just explode from there!

Seriously! Taking up a new hobby, I might meet new people who have similar interests in that hobby, plus others, which could encourage me to become even more active in said hobby/hobbies, branching out and meeting even more people, which is even *more* encouragement! :D

It sounds like what Eckhart Tolle talks about in his book "A New Earth." How we attach to our roles in life in order to gain a sense of self and purpose while, the true self and purpose (and passion in life) is found not through attaching to physical form but to discovering the essence of who we are. The universe of ourselves deep within and being okay with the simplicity that we find.

Hmmm... I saw that I was really attached to being a Sheriff Deputy when I was with King County. When I left I felt empty as well. Who was I? What passions did I possess? What brought me joy in life?

Oddly enough, I found an interesting sense of passion with starring at a tree outside my window the other day. I realize I have a ton to learn about the passions in my own life.

Thanks for sharing this... it was great to see you yesterday as well. I had missed your hugs!

You bring up good points. While I understand that, ultimately, the sense of purpose and passion and thriving in life comes from within, it still manifests itself without. I am focusing as much as I possibly can on my infinite and still self within, but I know that there is an action, a spark, that my soul has to bring forth and fill me completely. Just paying attention and being in no-mind won't do it. I'm wondering if being an observer is one thing while being a vessel of light is totally another, similar but not the same. I'm still digesting The Power of Now, maybe more answers to these questions will hit me as I progress and contemplate.

And yes, it was really really good to see you too! I as well have missed your hugs and your vibrant energy. So glad to see you again! Looking forward to this weekend. :)

Volunteering is a really good idea, though I think I need to take a slight break from that right now, as it's what I've been doing full-time for nearly 7 years. It is something to keep in mind, though. Thank you!

Kickball? Pilates? Ultimate Fighting? Sex?

Hahahaha! I think I'll pass on all but the first and the last, thankyouverymuch! And is yoga really bad for you? I always thought it was the best thing for the body, especially the back/core. I only have 1 yogi, and that's Matt Meko (www.mekosun.com, fun, sweet and HAWT). I'm thinking maybe cycling, or swimming. The gay volleyball league here sucks, WAY too much self-absorption and attitude. Kinda sad, 'cause it's the only sport I'm interested in, but it's the only gay league that is so full of itself.
