Dec 04, 2007 20:44

Continuing to catch up with the requests from my turn at the screw-it-I-can't- drabble meme. This one is for blackrosebard, who asked for Clark/Lois from the original movieverse. Sorry this took so long! Eeeek! I'll post links to the rest once I'm done (one more left! sister, S/B paparazzi pictures are comin' your way!).

Awwwwww.... So unbelievably sad!! :( I still want to kick the producers of SII for making it basically a zero-sum story. This was the perfect missing scene though - it gives that extra emotional component so we can see that it wasn't just superdickery at work.

Loved the bittersweet feeling of Clark seeing Lois crying in the kitchen. So heart-breaking.

Bravo! *applauds*

Augh, I do, too! I don't think I'll ever get over it, lol. *kicks producers with you* And I hate it even more that, however you look at the memory-wipe kiss, it makes Clark look bad and it can even make Lois look bad, too. So I'm happy to hear that this took the superdickery away. That's exactly what I was hoping for! *beams*

And thank you so much for reading and commenting! I really appreciate it. :D

The image of her crying, though, did me in.

I didn't plan on having her cry originally, but it just sort of ... happened! I think it must have been a lot of things catching up and overwhelming her ... the high stress from earlier (with thinking that Clark might be dead when he went to try to get his powers back, coupled with dealing with Zod), and then sensing that something is amiss between her and Clark now. :S

In any case, I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for commenting, and thanks for the prompt--it was nice to write Clois again. *grin*

He finds that she’s still in the kitchen, not squeezing oranges, but crying quietly with her back to him, one hand resting on the countertop, fingers curled into a fist around a tissue, the other covering her face.

Oh...oh...oh God! That was so heartbreaking! I can see her posture and everything so clearly, it's killing meeeee....

*wails and flails arms madly*

Jor-El is perfectly in character--I'm always tempted to make him an asshole because I hate so much what he does, but you write him wonderfully placable. Kal-El has violated certain rules, and there are certain penalties. No anger but no pity either. And your explanation of why the kiss had to happen is so much fairer to both of them than the movie is...

Wrenching perfection, really. *sighs*

I was telling merfilly that I didn't plan on having her cry, especially since she doesn't technically know that something is wrong between her and Clark atm. But I guess between intuiting that him having his powers back is not a good thing for their relationship, and all the crazy shiat with Zod that happened earlier ... it managed to push her over the edge. :(

Oh, thank goodness! *wipes brow* I really didn't want the kiss to be entirely Clark's fault, since it's such a crappy thing to do ... but I didn't want to ruin Jor-El's character either to save Clark's. So I'm so happy it came across that Jor-El wasn't being vindictive he was just ... enforcing the rules. I wasn't sure if that was clear. Thank you for getting it! *dances*

And thank you for your wonderful comment! You made my day. :D *hugs*

Awww! I'm so glad Barbara pointed me in this direction. Absolutely beautiful piece, with great characterization and very realistic feel. Trust me, any fic that makes me want to throttle Jor-El makes the grade.

And the ending? Is it too early to nominate for next year's SMVA? Don't be surprised if it makes the list. I love it!

Also, seconded for the nomination bit, whenever that starts!

I didn't want to be unfair to Jor-El here ... as much as he screws up Clark's life, I have a (mostly inexplicable) soft spot for the guy, lol. But as long as you're enjoying wanting to throttle him, then that's all that matters. =P

As for the rest of your wonderful comment ... *blushes and grins a lot* Thank you so much! I'm really happy to hear you like this; it means a lot to me that you came over here to check this out. :D

Ohhh this is so perfect. Clark's desperation in the Fortress - his deal with Jor-el (and boy does that remind me of Smallville) - hamburgers with Clark vs Superman - the orange juice - Lois surprises him with sudden sensitivity - and the ending, especially - this all makes me incredibly happy. It's so beautiful and wonderfully characterized. Fantastic writing (I love your style, too). *adds to favorites list*

Do you write Superman fic other than this? Because I'd love to read it... :D

his deal with Jor-el (and boy does that remind me of Smallville)

I was probably unconsciously influenced by Smallville there! I have a hard time keeping the different Superman canons from all mixing together when I'm writing, lol. ^-^

In any case, thank you for such a lovely comment (and for picking out so many of the little details, like the orange juice :D). I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed this!

And I do write other Superman fic! Most of it's slashy, but here are the two Clois one-shots I've done at 12days_of_clois:

You Can Go Home Again

Stolen Moments (Part One)

Stolen Moments (Part Two)

And if you're not deterred by WIPs, I can give you the link to my multi-chaptered Clois fic--although I have no idea if or when I'll ever finish it, so it's probably best to steer clear of it, lol. :(

Anyway, thank you again so much for reading this and commenting! It's been a while since I've written Clois, so your feedback really means a lot to me. *hugs*

Ooh, I'll have to go read those now! I'm not deterred by WIPs - at least, until I hit the "end" and wind up frustrated - but I love reading any Clois, so I would love the link. I also like slash - is it Richard/Clark? Jimmy/Clark? LOL, there's not much opportunity for slash in Superman fandom, because there are so few main characters, unless you watch Smallville... I would love to read your slash fics too, anyway.

You're welcome, and thanks for writing it! And I would love if you wrote more Clois but don't let me be pushy ;) *hugs back*
