Fire & Hemlock

Mar 04, 2006 03:29

Have just finished reading Fire & Hemlock. I've come to appreciate her work so much lately, because her style is so intricate and full of thought. Her complexity in character, plot, and details are just amazing. The only problem is wanting to read it again a second time, as soon as I just finished reading it the first time. Too much comes ( Read more... )

I think I WANT to own everything I've read by her so far. Except then I realize she's been around for 30+ years, and probably has a ton of books out.

You didn't read it yourself? I started with Howl's Moving Castle first (I'm hooked on Ghibli so I became interested in DWJ through the film), and moved on from there. But Fire & Hemlock is a bit different and just as addictive.

Dude, I have the friggin' book. Just ask me for DWJ stuff from now on, I'll just give it to you. I hate "Fire and Hemlocke" so you can have my copy if you didn't buy it.

Did you get my message like LAST WEEK, by the by? I left two on your voicemail.

I didn't buy it, although I'm thinking I should since I want to reread it anyway. Did you really hate it?? I'm curious, if you have your thoughts written somewhere already.

I got one (didn't hear a second)... except I wasn't sure it was you. I thought I heard, "Hey it's Eve" although it also sounded like "Hey it's me." Was too embarassed to ask, and I remembered you were sick as well.

Ugh, I can't even finish it. I even know the original story and I still can't finish it. I'll give you my copy.

Dude, I called you TWICE and why didn't you want to ask? *smacks* It's not like I would've killed you. I was hanging out with Jae, remember? I thought I mentioned it on my lj, and was wondering if you wanted to come with us when we went to the ROM or CN Tower or something disgustingly touristy.

XD ROM I've been to since forever, although I think they have a lot more new exhibitions up since I went last year. They've got this new funky architecture they're building, so I'm curious about that. But I got your message rather late (Friday? I think) since I had my phone off most of last week. Half the week, the battery was dead and I didn't even realize it. I just thought no one was calling me.

I was allergic to the book for years XD XD And yes, I do own most of her books myself.

It is a very confusing book which I failed to understand earlier because of the lack of familiarity with the original ballad. Still is confusing though. ^^ I recommend Hexwood next.

My reading habits have flipped somewhat. I use to read a lot of children (childish preteen paperback books like Babysitter Club *ugh* I cannot believe I really read that stuff, now that I think about it) when I was younger, and threw in a lot of adult books too. XD A lot were what my mom read, or recommendations in newspaper reviews and such. I prefered them, since they were better written. Now that I'm older, I'm going back and reading books that I should have read as a child.

I'm almost tempted to find some place (LJ comm perhaps) to see what others think about or thought about when they read it years ago. But I'll probably just reread it, since I'm not too familiar with her other books enough to expose my noobie-ness that is so evident. Will check out Hexwood next time I've got a long break. Thanks!

Thank you!!! One of the post brought up an interesting topic. I was hesitant on joining, since I haven't read much of her books. Might as well. :D
