i found one of those once in my bedroom in the middle of the night. i was paralyzed for a good 20 minutes trying to decide what to do about it. it was like i was transfixed. i couldn't take my eyes off it. on the one hand, the thought of trying to capture it to let it go outside was terrifying because, you know, it might GET ME. on the other hand, the thought of trying to kill it was terrifying because it might GET ME. either way, i was doomed. also, i couldn't just turn off the lights and pretend i hadn't seen it, because then it would surely GET ME as i slept.
i finally worked up the nerve to trap it in a jar. seriously, the spread of this spider's legs was like the diameter of a tennis ball.
if it's any consolation, what you saw was probably something called, appropriately enough, a giant house spider and it's not poisonous.
its still lurking in my living room somewhere. i managed to get away to my bedroom last night but now i'm working double time to pack because if it actually makes it way here into my room there's NO WAY i'm staying!
Let it live! Please don't kill it! Catch it in jar as carrotjuicer did, and put it outside please. If it's not poisonous you can even pick it with your hand if it's too hard to catch with a jar.
yea it's ok. we've got a spider catcher. my mum dreamed it up one night. its a huge 5 litre bottle of water with the bottom cut out so you can see inside it. its on the end of a 2 metre bamboo cane. it wont die don't worry ;)
i did actually think of you whilst it was going on! but actually i think you win the scary-spider-experience because yours actually landed on you. *THAT* would have been scary!!
According to my wife, all things except large spiders. If they're big enough that I don't know if I should try and squish them or just shoot them, they gots ta go.
Well when this one turns up again (because it's still lurking in the livingroom somewhere) i'm letting someone else handle it. I'm afraid that if i was on my own then the spider would be sucked up by the hoover. Quickest way.
