I am very intrigued. I have wanted someone to write a au/au in some ancient civilization forever. I love ancient history and have even written a bit of historical slash myself, but I could not muster the energy or muse to do it myself.

This is historically accurate without being confusing. Placing Ennis in the Spartan society seems fitting somehow, considering how they were inured from birth to be stoic and harsh.

I cannot, cannot, cannot wait for part I.

I love ancient history too! [well it is quite obvious, isn't it?]

Both Ennis and "Ioan" are into Sparta society, since all the three "classes" [not proper terminology but oh, well...] were needed. I admit the idea of the baby spartiate grew up among hilots isn't mine. It is of Valerio Massimo Manfredi, an amazing historic-writer. My fanfiction had been inspired by his "Scudo di Talos" [I belive is traslated in english as "Talos' Shield"]. If you like history, you shoul definitively read that book! It is AMAZING.

Thank for your comment!^^ If you like this, maybe you should give a look to "The Most Beautiful Thing". It is an one-shot I did in this universe. It is sooner in the journal^^ [and yes, I started to write the one shot BEFORE the true story XD Am I mad...]

I have read something from that author and I didn't really enjoy the way he handled Alexander the Great, especially his alleged lifelong love of his best friend/lover Hephaestion.

I love Mary Renault's retelling of Alexander the Great's life, as fictional as it may be.

When can we expect the next part of Eros?

Yes, I agree with you =\ Valerio Massimo Manfredi wrote only two really beautiful book: Talos' Shield and another one based over ancient Rome/ancient China. Those two are really worth to be read! The other... Well... >.<

Quite soon, I have other 3 chapter ready and the fic will be around 8, 9 chapter. After, I am planning to post a Canon!Au story I am writing too, but I think I will wait till the end of Eros for that^^

I am truly fascinated and looking forward to seeing more of this Spartan tale unfold. I do remember from my schooling that Sparta was a hard place, and so I don't expect this journey to be easy. Anxious for that angst. The idea that they would take a beautiful sweet baby and leave him in an oak tree -- gives me shivers. Ah but 'the gods' have saved him -- for now!

This was a wonderful description of a 'shouting, noisy' newborn Jack:

Taking the wailing child into his hands, Adrasto freezes ( ... )

Thanks ^_^ Yup, Sparta was harsh! But life in ancient world wasn't easy at all.

Eheheh you got a point. "The gods" will be very important in this fanfic. But they were very importan in the time I am writing. "They" have already shaped the life of ours Ennis&Ioan. More later on ;)

Just letting you know that I am looking forward to reading this.
I’d hoped that you would continue after ‘the most beautiful thing’, and here it is, this is wonderful news Tatia.

This is an incredible idea for a fic! Brilliant coup to be transplanting BBM to such a different setting. In addition to weaving such a gripping story, I must thank you for sharing your knowledge of ancient Greece and Spartan culture with us. I love how you manage to weave in so many canon references, especially with such brilliant name and language references. Twist! Del Mar! Even KE! Even Uncle Harold! I can't wait to find out how Spartiate Ennis and Helot Jack meet.

Thanks thanks^^ You are going to make me blush =P
I admit I had some pain to keep Jack and Ennis name almost the same one. Ennis had been easier... but Jack is an hebrew name XD To find a reference I had to skim trough my faitufull ancient greek dictionary twince =P
But the name is ok with the story^_^

Thanks again, I am trying to give as much canon reference as I can =)

To answer your other question: I am Italian, but in my high school [in Italy there are different "kind" of high school, depends on what you like, want to do, etc] I had to learn to traslate ancient Greek and Latin. I do love them, even if Greek is something a true pain in the *beeep* =P And we studied a lot of History. Well, when you made Classic Studies... =P

By the way, are you actually Greek, or are you from another country but have studied ancient Greece a great deal?
