Why doing my taxes involves a bit of detective work

So it is only April 11th and my taxes are just about done. Not bad, right? I'd say it will have taken me about 4 hours when all is said and done. Also not bad

What method (other than cash) would there not have been a record for? I mean, I'd think things would be the same via credit or debit card.

Debit card records are online, and I can only go back so far without a hassle. Hence check records were far more useful.
