On Saturday, I went to the Borough Market. It's the main fancy farmers market in London. A more expensive, more upmarket, Old Strathcona market. My favourites are the black pudding and the sausages. But they also have cheeses, butchers, fruit, vegetables, olives, breads, desserts, coffee... It's a foodie paradise. And a danger to the wallets

I really can't comment fairly, as all the English food I've eaten is Pub fare (which is usually suitable greasy and salty to appeal to my more visceral tastes).
However, my dad tells stories of the horrible boiled food (you name it, they boiled it) he had in England after "the war." To put it in perspective, he had just been released from a POW camp. Not that the food in the POW camp was good, it's just that the food outside the POW camp wasn't any better.
I suspect that the more international the nation (or cities within a nation) get, the more varied and interesting the cuisine becomes. In any case, at least the English beer is decent enough to wash pretty much anything down.

It's something that would probably offend the vegetarians...
There are puddings for sale at the Borough Market, though. I just never bought them, considering we still have 2 Christmas pudddings sitting in a cupboard at home.
