It's been nine years since I created this and almost 3 since I've posted last. I obviously just use this to keep up on a few communities... but the ol' lj has been a good thing. Thanks to those of you who keep me coming back to check. -
Election
Tomorrow will be the third presidential election in which I have been eligible to vote. The last two were during the college years, when there was the potential to be especially involved in the campaigning/election process - or when people would be especially passionate. teaching stuff
It's getting to be back to school time. I'm excited for fall. This rainy weather has helped get me in the mood for the change of the seasons. When asked, I've usually claimed that fall is my favorite season, but then when it becomes spring I think about how happy it is when the temperatures rise and the sun comes out and everyone starts being ( Read more... ) -

We had a great trip to California.
July 4: We went with my two aunts and uncles, another couple, and the sailboat owner (who has been teaching my uncle to sail) sailing in a 30' boat on San Francisco Bay, from the marina next to the All-Star game baseball park to Angel Island (next to Alcatraz) and back. I just saw the setlist for the first re-appearance of the Smashing Pumpkins. It brought back memories of listening to a lot of those songs on repeat through the first couple years of college when I was missing Ryan. Those were bittersweet times. Well, we got back from GR after enjoying Ted and Tara's wedding (I have to guess that our table was the most entertaining one at the whole shabang), and the first thing I noticed was that someone appeared to have started cutting the screen to the kitchen window. busy-ness
Today was day 3 of inservices/prep time before school begins. I was gone approximately 10 hours today, 9 hours yesterday, and 7 hours the day before with 3.5 hours of work at CMH after school. I had also put in approximately 12 hours of prep time at school last week. Granted, I had all summer off and could have done more over that longer span, but ( Read more... ) -

I was on the news last night. There was a murder in the seedy motel just north of our house (the Deluxe Inn) on Wednesday. WLNS chose to do a piece about the REO Town area and whether we should just "give up" on making it a decent neighborhood, what with this murder and recent drug busts, prostitution, etc. I agreed to speak about trying to turn ( Read more... ) -

I just looked back at my (very sporadic) entries from last year as I was beginning teaching. My dad kept getting on my back about keeping a journal about my first year, and I was annoyed at his badgering. So I didn't, and now I wish I had.
