Thanks! I was considering The Boy in the Drawer or Jonathan Cleaned Up and Then He Heard a Sound, but I figured it was a good fit with the fairy tale and the feminism.
And no, I hadn't seen the animation. It is delightful, but also extremely disconcerting to hear it told without the Robert Munsch inflection and with extra scenes. My inner child is aghast ("They're doing it WRONG"), which - whatever, child (you do realize you just asked for extra scenes, right?).
Oooh, or Angela's Airplane . . . though Paper Bag Princess is a total classic.
Hey, it could be worse (they still have Munsch himself narrating, after all). Just let your inner child watch five minutes of The Dark is Rising and it'll have a different standard for adaptations.
But what I find notable about the cartoon is the ending. I mean, seriously, she flew off into the sunset with the dragon. Massive fanfic potential.
