Hee! They had lots of stuff on the wall, but they'd hung some of the "American" signs up backwards. :) Maybe it made the Rs look right to them. :)

Oh man, I forgot that was the word. That's doubly funny, because once in Russian class I had to memorize this long children's poem for an oral exam-- I mean, it's an actual Russian nursery-rhyme type thing, not just something my profs just made up-- where all the animals are calling the narrator on the phone asking for things. (The first poem on this page, in fact. Спасибо, дядя Google!)

Anyway, one of the animals is the rhino. And for some reason, thinking of "Кто говорит?" "Носорог." is much much funnier knowing that's slang for (ahem) something.

(The rhinoceros calls up to call urgently for help, because the hippo is stuck in the mud/pond and can't get out. Ох, нелёгкая это работа -

Okay, so now I'm giggling in the hotel business center and the Ukrainian secretary is looking at me funny. I'm thinking if she asks me what's so funny, I might yell "Nosorog!" and run off. :)

There's a strip club in Santa Barbara called Spearmint Rhino. Maybe I'm dense, but I've never had any idea what the heck that's supposed to mean. If you figure it out, please tell me :)

Given its apparent association with strip clubs, and pointy bits, I was sort of guessing some sort of slang for, ah, male genitalia.
