Moscow is something like Brussels and Kyiv and New York. It's very crowded and busy and there's a simultaneous feeling of being in a world city and a place that has such a strong identity as to be impenetrable to anyone but a local. We drove to Kharkov leaving from Kyiv Sunday around 1am, after packing for two hours. We first stopped just outside of Borispyl at a place whose name was just "NON-STOP" (well, in Cyrillic.) Since my last confession, I have eaten at an acronym-titled American chain restaurant in Kyiv. I just couldn't take it any more, livejournal, the "pizza" made with monomolecular layers of tomato and dry goat cheese over flavorless lavosh, and there was this acronym American restaurant, with air conditioning pouring out the door.
