find some coloured felt and cut out and sew on appliques. Or buy some and sew them on, maybe in the corner. I think for size, you'd want crib mattress size.

Check out the Sears catalogue, they should have measurements for a crib mattress or run over to Wally World there in Penhorn with your tape measure and measure the size of the mattresses or the blankets in the baby department :)

Thought about doing what you said and then getting them embroidered with their names...or cross stitched if you are handy like that?

I have identical twin nieces, Jade and Eva, who are a year old - my friend's mum made them fleecy blankets, and all around the outside edge she sewed loops of ribbon - it's super easy - you just cut about 3-4 inches of ribbon, fold it in half to make a loop and sew it on - continue all around the outside edge. Use different colours, textures, with designs on them - BABIES LOVE THEM! So all around the outside edge are these colourful loops. My nephew used to bring us his blanket so we could make a loop out of the edge that he could put his finger in and hold - I guess something that's quite common for little ones - the girls LOVE their blankets. It makes such a cool edging - theirs are actually small - probably not much bigger than one foot by one foot, but you can make them any size. There is a company, called Taggies, that sells tons of variations on these loops - if you want to see what it looks like, Google their name - I'm sure they have a website. Andrea carries their stuff in her store (Boutique Trillium here in Richmond ( ... )
