Though Rahne had, at its appearance, been glad for the snow, she's been even more pleased to see it gone, even if the absence of it hasn't changed anything that happened in it. These days, she tries not to think about it; things have been looking up for all of them, with Jamie doing a bit better and Moira and Layla having shown up, even if each of ( Read more... )

As much as George had enjoyed the cold weather, the return of the sun in January had been a welcome change. After all, the cold had meant the compound was more crowded. Living with two people had been enough of an invasion of privacy, but he'd started to feel like there was always someone looking over his shoulder when he was reading or eating or...doing just about anything, really ( ... )

The sound of a voice comes unexpectedly, and Rahne stops and turns even before realizing whose it is. A greeting on the tip of her tongue, she freezes momentarily when she sees George standing there, less because she's surprised to see him there than because of what she immediately has to try not to think of. For that one second, she might as well be back in the snow, kneeling over her father's corpse, wide-eyed and lost. The moment passes, though, and she smiles, albeit just a touch on the awkward side herself.

"Hello," she replies, letting out a breath that isn't quite a laugh, at a loss for what else she's supposed to do here. It isn't like she has any inclination to bring up the last time they really saw each other. "How've you been, then?"

"Good. Brilliant," George said, closing the distance between them, as awkward as it may have been. It was hard not to think about the last time they'd really talked, impossible, actually. He couldn't count the number of times it'd crossed his mind since that night. Sometimes, he'd close his eyes and he was back there in the snow. Other times, he was back in that clearing in Scotland, that American tourist clinging to the last bits of his life as he lay next to him.

"How-- How about you?" He asked, and glanced curiously down at her Vespa. Obviously, he could have been wrong, but he didn't think she'd had one before.

"Oh, I've been..." Rahne begins, and trails off, not sure entirely what to say. Launching into how she's been seeing a $&@^ing therapist because of the night they found her father's corpse in the snow isn't really the best conversation starter, after all. It's the first thing that comes to mind, though, so she falters just a moment, an answer coming to her only when she remembers the bike under her hand. "Fine. Hard not to be, with the island getting all generous all of a sudden. This showed up maybe a week ago, had my name on it."
