Fic reposting: Not Die Alone 1 - Blade of Westernesse

Aug 10, 2004 18:02

Author's Note: Nothing really new here yet. This is the first chapter of a projected series; I originally posted it on ff.net well over a year ago, before I had an LJ. I'm reposting this now because Merry would not let me be; chapter two (brand-new!) is going up tomorrow, and, erm, there is absolutely no way in hell it will be understandable ( Read more... )

I think you might just have heard me squee.

*cough*

That said, you know how much I love this story (you should, because I remember telling you once upon a time in AIM), and I remember when I first read it, back on ff.net what feels like forever ago. The reread is worth it, despite the fact that I've read it again and again, and chapter two is going to be worth it, too.

I love how you tie the tales together. A simple comment, yes, but this story is one that I fully adore.

... I hope you post chapter two before I leave on my mini-vacation. Heh.

Oooh, yes, I do remember your saying it, and was kinda amazed that you could remember The Fic from Before the Dawn of Time. Glad your memories of it are fond, and yes, chapter two is now up! Have a great vacation!

Oh, this is going to be fun! (For me as a reader, I mean--not necessarily for the characters!)

I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow for part two? *brushes up on deferred gratification skills. fidgets impatiently anyway*

Hee, glad you're enjoying it. This is my best stab at Beach Reading for Geeks. And chapter two is UP. It's THERE. So if for people who read the fic last year, this has been the World's most Belated Update, for you it's the World's Fastest. Can I average the two together and come out in the middle somewhere? :D

And he had been after all but a lesser son of a great people..

This was lovely, and very heart-breaking. I always loved Merry's moment of waking after the Barrow-wight incident. I am delighted that you have followed through with this, and created a lovely enhancement to my favorite adventure. I particularly like how Pippin, Merry, and Frodo all show growth in this one small segment. An engaging and thought-provoking read. Thank you.

Thanks! Yes, I think this experience left all of them changed, though the fic will primarily be focusing on the long-term effects on Merry. We will see the others, but only through his eyes, and Merry will not always be as perceptive as he might be. I'm glad you like what you see so far!

Thanks! I love this part of FotR too -- it hints at these vast shadows of the past that float like ghosts in the landscape that the hobbits travel. I've always wondered what would happen if that past somehow became more alive to them, and this fic is my attempt at figuring it out. Glad you like what you see so far!
