Ugh. You need a cadre of dedicated lawyers, too.

Counterintimidation works wonders. That's been well-documented. One of the best ways to fuck up groups like this is to get a couple licensed attorneys to follow them around for a few days with a camera and do a little public record discovery on their main leaders.

Welcome to the real reason I want to go to law school. Legally Blonde is a ruse.

Two of my friends moved to Wichita after college, and one of them works at Tiller's clinic. I cannot even wrap my brain around all of the shit they have to deal with on a daily basis. The e-mails I get from them are full of these crazy anecdotes -- some are funny, some are triumphant, but most are just plain creepy like the stuff in this article. With the exception of two years in Utah, I've always lived in these cozy little liberal hotspots, and it's almost easy to forget that there are so many clinics out there that have to deal with more than a few protesters holding pink plastic rosaries that occasionally poke a toe into the parking lot just to get a rise out of you. Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh. But what I mostly wanted to say is:

If people spent as much time, effort, and money on preventing unintended pregnancy, supporting pregnant women, and making adoption easier, as they do on harassment and legalistic challenges to abortion, the rate in the United States would be close to zero. Fools.

Fucking exactly.

AMEN!

I've often said that the whole problem I have with the more violent anti abortion people is that they really don't do much to make abortion a less desireable alternative.

I'd rather see abortion become nonexistant because it just wasn't needed anymore. If you make it illegal, all you'll do is drive women to the hands of the backalley butcher.

That's exactly what I feel. I'm personally pro-life, but in my AP Government mock Senate we debated a constitutional amendment to ban abortion, and you can bet I was against it. I don't understand why people think that making something illegal puts a stop to it. All it means is that you have absolutely no power to regulate it and require certain health and safety measures to be taken.

Things like this make me so angry, the way that some sanctimonious bullies try to steal the rights of others. We're lucky in the UK with regard to access to contraception and abortions (though we still have too many mistakes in young girls), but the unelected social enforcers here focus mainly on those involved in medical research that uses animals, or banks or contractors that service organisations involved in such research. They want to pick away at the things they don't agree with one by one, condemning everyone who doesn't hold with their views. No one wants to do abortions or animal research for the sake of it; but provided every effort is made to minimise the need for them and that they're carried out in a responsible manner, they both can provide benefits that out way the harm of doing nothing.
Use that anger well honey.

That's so sick and wrong. I wonder if I can write Tilley a letter telling him I appreciate his efforts. I'm so glad that there are doctors who stand up like this, and clinic workers too.
