I love Linux. Where else do you get to use a command like "grep the jabberwock"?

(yes, that's a real, valid command. It searches through the file named "jabberwock" for the word "the", and then prints them.)

It looks like my wonderful, imaginary, sail-around-the-pacific dream might be coming true-er. I am sitting in a classroom that more resembles a coffee shop than a lecture hall. It's got walls in that odd yellow color, round wooden tables, and snazzy carpet. So, Cybermancy wasn't all that good. I was hoping for a hacker novel with mythological overtones, it ended up a very solidly mythological story that borrowed a couple words of hacker jargon, complete with basically nothing on hacking, a fairly obvious lack of understanding of how computers, networks, and hacking actually work, and basically came ( Read more... )

So, it's kinda my birthday today. I am, as of four-ish this morning, twenty years old.

I just got a nifty birthday present, too - I was one of two people in my CS class to come up with the best possible solution to a homework problem, and I wouldn't be surprised to know that less than half the class even understood how the solution worked.
