To our defense, 99% of all programming books and university courses focus on crap that CFD people never care about: string processing and languages whose strength is string processing. Only the few of us who take more than one actual course on programming and survive the horrible string processing phase get to learn about things that will be of use to CFD: software design, programming for reliability and maintainability. Normally, CFD coders never learn this stuff, but they write code anyway.
