I have spats of terrible computer luck (everything-I-touch-dies level) mostly on the hardware end. Software-wise I have to reinstall less often than most people. I get worms if I don't update regularly, that's inevitable, but I don't usually get viruses, even though I don't use antivirus software (it's caused me more problems than the viruses). Mostly that's through clean living and not reading email attachments ( ... )

People have noted that systems I build tend to be very tempermental, despite good performance, for anyone other than me.

I have that same problem.

That means you are doing something wrong.

I disagree. I build systems for myself, not other people. As such they are optimally designed to be used by me.

Clean, neat, and generally badass. No problems. No viruses, spyware, adware, or anything like that.

Of course, I own a Mac.

I've had the occasional bit of spyware, but I've never had a virus, despite running from 2000-2005 without a firewall. I generally attribute it to not being an idiot.

I should also note that I left my monogamous relationship with Windows for an open relationship with Windows and Linux (oh, the drama!), mostly booting into Linux, and I've almost forgotten what spyware was like.

Ahh, bliss.

If you have a lot of computer problems you are not fit to call yourself a technopagan, imho.

All common computer problems have easy solutions. Autoupdates, appropriate cooling, anti-spyware immunization all work very well these days.

You're right. I guess you could specialize in the wheel.

I'd consider revising that to "If you have a lot of computer problems that you don't learn from..." If you're one like me, you are constantly finding new problems (especially in parallel).
