Frequent flyer mile card? and all travel for business is write-offable. So are any mortgage payments you make if you make your house the office of Camp-blig medical. Expenses such as car, maintenance, logging and meals can all be written off if necessary for your lively hood. just hold the receipts. But more importantly, the question to ask is what do I feel like doing? Find a new Job, or pick up and go from DC to boston (which is the Accela train run BTW) all the time. you made find this to be too much of a pain even with a nice fat refund every year. My dad has worked from home for the last 10 years, it allows him to do all sorts of stuff. It's a tuff call, personally, If I didn't think I could make money being self-employed, I'd just find a local job and move on, keep in touch with your Children's' people for the human factor. I wouldn't pick up and go to boston every few weeks. If you're gonna do that though, I'd be self employed, and take the write offs, and just pick up a new job if and when your contract is up.

My accountant doesn't recommend writing off ouse payments or rent as a business expense, for good reason (Especially mortgage): if you write off your residence as an expense, you are not entitled to protection from captial gains taxes when you sell it... which is very important, so I won't be doing that. :)

Everyone gave such great advice with the last post, and said most everything I would have ;) What I do know is, lives are generally too short to be spent doing something you don't like, or worrying about this that and another thing. Experiment a little, and figure out what works for you & Monique :)

I am facing a similar decision for when I move (slave to The Man or self employed) so I'll be picking your brain if you go all consultant ;)

Either way, good luck!
