I just got back from a late showing of Children of Men. It's not the best movie I've ever seen - it's probably not even in the top five - but it's absolutely incredible just the same and probably the only film I've watched in the past seven or eight years that honestly provoked a powerful emotional response. It does this by being disarmingly ( Read more... )

Was bored throughout. Even seeing it for free didn't help me enjoy it.

Nope. We're poor.
I've been watching a lot of movies online though. Pan's Labrinth is awesome, Epic Movie sucked, The Marine was hard to watch, etc, etc.

And dude, Children of Men was boring. Sure the visuals were great at points, but the same could be said about Blade or The Crow. It was the emotional equilivant of jerking off to Sesame Street - you don't know why you did it, you feel bad after, and during your still a little confused.

Yeah, it was generally a pretty banal film. Like I said, that's what made those few points of actual content stand out for me. I'd normally be pissed at something like that too but it really left an impression. On a related note, have you seen the film Threads? It's apparently up on Google video. British post-apocalyptic film shot towards the end of the cold war. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet but I've read good things.

The only person this might not be true for is Mike, but he's special. And even he might like it. Maybe.
Yup, he's the most special person I've met. I admit he can be a *bit* critical of films... but I view that as a strength, and his movie reviews have provided me with hours of entertainment.

I was disappointed. I mean I liked it but I really expected better. People say this was obviated by two things sticking way the hell out for me.

I think the movie could also be titled-

"Theo Wants a Cigarette"

or

"Household Pets Love Theo"

That was something I noticed. Not those two things in particular, but when one little thing was off it stuck in my mind for a good three or four minutes. This happened with the 'Only Britain Soldiers On' vid spot and the stilted delivery of Theo's cousin and a few others. I was momentarily captivated by each flaw as it occurred. That's really weird, I thought it was just me.

No those things caught me hardcore. Enough that that was the impression that stuck after the movie.
