Confirmation & Columbine

This past week in my confirmation class, made up of mostly 8th graders (and a 9th grader who is peripherally involved in the life of the church who got missed last year), we were talking about the 5th commandment.  In Lutheran circles (as well as some others), the 5th commandment is this:  "You shall not murder."  (Not that you care, but did you ( Read more... )

If you haven't seen the movie "Elephant," check it out on Netflix--but don't do it if you've already had a bad day.

I remember that day very clearly. It was my senior year of high school (1999)--So technically these kids were born, but only about 3 yrs old. But I really remember identifying with these kids, but also being absolutely dumbfounded that such things can happen.

Interesting idea for the 5th commandment. Even if the kids aren't familiar, it's a story that really resonates with most kids.

You're right. For some reason, I had it in my head that Columbine was 1995 - but that was the year of the Oklahoma City bombing. My bad - anyway, you are right - too young to remember, regardless.
Thanks for helping me fix that in my head. I would've gone about thinking it happened 4 years earlier than it did for a long time!
& I'll try to check out that movie - the problem w/ Netflix being that there's no guarantee you'll get a movie when you are in the mood to see it. =)
Hope you had some good introverted time this weekend & that your familia gets home safe & sound (or is already there - didn't know what Laura's trip looked like...)
