Previous post disappeared...  Was disappointed with some of the KenpoX crap.  Especially the guy's idea of blocking.  I really hate kicking thin air too.  But what can ya do?  I'd kill for one of our old Kungfu classes instead of KenpoX, but I'll grin and bear it for now ( Read more... )

Oh completely. The workout is nowhere near one of the kung fu workouts that I used to have with FSU, Eddie, or mike, but at least it has some of the motions. I enjoyed the kics and the moving punch sets enough, but the blocks were painful yes. I've never really dugg the karate style of blockin, always enjoyed either boxing or the kung fu way.
But it got the heart pumping and i was able to throw a few kicks and punches so that made me happy since i havent done kfu in 10 months or so

Not only are karate blocks kinda iffy, but his way of doing them was completely ineffectual. You have to move your whole arm as a unit if you want to create the momentum necessary to really block anything. He just sorta threw his arm out there, creating momentum almost exclusively through his forearm.

And boxers don't block, teki, they absorb. They are like large, meaty, kinetic-energy sponges.

Watched some live kickboxing Saturday. It's like boxing for people who couldn't make it in boxing. You HAVE to throw a certain number of kicks per round or you're penalized. That's the silliest rule I ever heard of. If it weren't for that rule, they'd have to call it secondrateboxing.
