I'm not sure if I mentioned it before, but my doc told me that it would take two months before the Lupron would have enough effect for me to notice a difference in my level of discomfort.

I've known people with pain pill addictions, and really it's not the end of the world. The things to be concerned about are (1) liver damage, mainly from the acetaminophen part of what's in the pain pills, and (2) getting stuck without without the pills & going into withdrawal. Opiate withdrawal is horrible. Just horrible. You will think you're dying, for serious ( ... )

Thanks, Lucy. I guess I put this up for a little reassurance, you know? Today I tried again to go all day without the pills and I finally broke down and took them - I probably wound up taking *more* than I would have if I'd just given in to begin with. As I said before, though, I'm still not taking anywhere close to what she prescribed - she said I could get more if I needed them, but they tend to not give you as much crap if you ration a little ( ... )

Hang in there. If you're getting nausea from the pills, let the doctor know. A different formulation might give you the painkilling effect you're looking for without the sickness. For instance, Vicodin makes G. queasy, but he's fine on Percocets.

The ginger pills I've been taking have been helping a lot with the nausea - they're great! Gary might want to try them the next time he has issues. Percocet gives me less nausea than Lortab, but I'm still sticking to the ginger every time I take some.

BTW, I've been slowly working my way through "Sparks and Shadows". "A Preference for Silence" was uber-creepy. Usually, when I read a short story collection, I inhale it, one story after another, almost in the way one would read chapters in a novel.

I can't do that with "Sparks" because each story and essay are so unique unto themselves that I have to pause to absorb them before I go on. Take that as a compliment, as it is meant as such. Any collection that actually makes me stop and think is a great one in my book, :).

Take care and please give my best to Gary!
