It sounds more or less like what you'd expect: an old classic-rocker trying to make an artistically "meaningful" album with a lot of rhythm and instrument changes. It sounds like he's trying to make an indie-rock record, with an emphasis on the ROCK

I listened to the album a few weeks ago and I think it's pretty good (a couple exceptions), but it just sounds so... Nineties. Way too 1990s. That's what he gets for spending 15 years making it!

Seriously. The nineties ended in 2003 and he just needs to accept that if he's going to move on.
