In-Character Information
Name: EVA.
Game/Series: Metal Gear.
Canon Point: MGS2, Post-Tanker/AU-ish.
Age & Teaching Position: 67 27. Librarian.
Living Arrangements: Dorm.
Personality:
An extraordinary spy. EVA began her training for it since she was a young girl. She's undoubtedly one of the greatest liars one will encounter in their lifetime. The only person able to see through her guise during Operation Snake Eater was the woman who had taught her nearly everything she knew; The Boss. Her ability to lie, particularly combined with her other skills is what makes her what such an impressive spy.
EVA is intelligent, cunning, and observant. Able to pick up on things easily, she's able to learn a great deal of information about a person or place in a quick amount of time. Sly and clever, EVA manipulates others easily to get what she wants or needs from them. Although she is smart, she can and does play dumb (rather convincingly) if it's necessary.
As she matured, she was taught how to use her good looks and charisma to her advantage as well. EVA said it herself, there's not a man alive who can resist her charms. She's skilled in the art of flirtation and seduction, and has been known to use it to get what she wants. Fortunately for her, flirting comes naturally to EVA. She was just disciplined on how to use it in order to manipulate.
Even the greatest spies have their faults, however. Most notably, EVA's emotions can get in the way of her job. For example, despite the fact that she was ordered to kill anyone who got in her way during her mission during Snake Eater, she let Big Boss get away simply because The Boss told her not to. She has a tendency to get a little melodramatic and her feelings for people she cares about has a significant influence on her behavior.
During Snake Eater, Ocelot had definite doubts about Tatyana almost from the start. EVA's disguise was neither particularly creative or effective. She's never had the greatest knack for disguises, but she is able to get by. That being said though, don't expect anything convincing from her. Like mother like son... Pliskin.
More than any of her most valued possessions, EVA treasures her motorcycle the most. She's had the same damn bike for over 40 years. She's fairly attached to the Triumph itself, but the experience of being on a bike is something that allows EVA to feel free to be herself. It's a good way for her to clear her head. To stress the importance of her motorcycle; "I only get off my bike when I fall in love... or fall dead."
On that note, EVA's got a prominent romantic side to her. When she falls in love, she falls hard. EVA has been in love with Big Boss since Snake Eater and the feeling has only intensified over the years. The only person EVA loves as much as Big Boss is The Boss, whom she fell in love with when she was younger. There have been and are boyfriends and girlfriends, and although some have been incredibly significant in her life, no relationship has come close to what EVA feels for Big Boss and The Boss. However, it's not easy for her to fall in love, let alone trust someone enough to consider them a friend and really mean it.
Even before Les Enfants, EVA has had motherly instincts. EVA considers the Twin Snakes to be her children, despite the complications that say she's not. EVA was unable to contact either of the brothers as they were growing up, causing her a lot of distress. She's watched them grow up from afar, hearing stories mostly from Ocelot. Coming to Smash Academy, she was around Solid Snake for a long time, not saying anything until the very end. Shortly after, Snake left. It left her feeling confused and a little vulnerable, considering he had told others. Before leaving the school again, EVA began to suspect Liquid Snake was at the school as well. In addition to the twins, a small, pale girl has also stolen a portion of EVA's heart and ran away with it. Although they might not talk much, EVA values her relationship with Vianca more than
Personality wise, when she's not pretending to be someone she's not, EVA often comes off cold to strangers. She rarely tells others the truth about herself, and is even reluctant to be absolutely truthful with those closes to her. Although, she's not the nicest person to begin with. She can be a total bitch at times, even to those she considers a friend; it's really just her personality. Her sense of humor is rather sarcastic, which doesn't really help with her cold demeanor either.
Backstory:
Who would have thought a school full of total nutjobs would have such a significant impact on a woman who had already gone through so much?
EVA was born in a small town in Idaho. However, she was raised in a Soviet-Chinese-American facility in China, enrolled in a "charm school" run by a charming group of men from who called themselves the Philosopher's. There, she was trained to be the talented sleeper agent she is now. Among her teachers was The Boss, an incredible woman that EVA admires greatly. When she graduated from the charm school, she joined the Chinese People's Liberation Army and learned to shoot like a pro and pilot jets.
In 1964, The Chinese and American governments sent agents- EVA and The Boss respectively (unbeknownst to one another)- to take a microfilm worth millions of dollars (~the Legacy~) from a batshit Russian giant named Colonel Volgin who planned to use the money to fund Groznyj Grad, his military fortress, and the creation of a mobile missile-launching thing called the Shagohod, designed by a sad little man named Dr. Sokolov. EVA snuck into Groznyj Grad and posed as Dr. Sokolov's lover Tatyana. The Boss faked defection to the Soviet Union and siding with the Colonel in order to secure the Legacy for America.
While all that shit was going down, the Americans also sent a node nerd named Naked Snake- who also happened to be a mentee of The Boss'- to Groznyj Grad to rescue Sokolov. That really worked out well. The Boss meant up with Snake, broke his arm and tossed him off a bridge. Oh, and recaptured Sokolov. Volgin launched a missile at Sokolov's research lab for assumedly no reason and Snake went back to the U.S. after surviving a big fall.
Conviniently at that time, the CIA was growing wary of how awesome The Boss was and had been planning on killing her. So they pointed their fingers at The Boss when the Soviet Union came crying about the missile launching. They claimed she had defected to the Soviet Union, and to prove their innocence, they sent Snake back to to Groznyj Grad for Operation Snake Eater. His objective was to kill the Boss, Volgin, and rescue Sokolov for real.
Instead of meeting up with a dude named ADAM (secretly Ocelot!!!!!!!!) like he was supposed to, Snake was met with EVA. For whatever reason, Ocelot chickened and EVA showed up and posed as ADAM's partner, EVA. Lucky for her.
Disguised as EVA, she helped Snake with his mission by giving him information on the surrounding area, the bad guys, and other assholes who would potentially get in Snake's way. As Tatyana, EVA had become Volgin's precious little pet in order to gain his trust. It was all working out perfectly. Well, until Snake fucked up.
The Colonel found Snake snooping around where Sokolov was being kept and immediately saw through his creepy Raikov disguise. He was taken to the prison to be tortured for answers. Everyone's invited, and soon Ocelot decides he's going to play Russian Roulette with Tatyana after honking her boob. Snake bodyslammed him and ended up with one less eye than he had before. So then everyone left except Tatyana, revealing herself as EVA to Snake and telling him how to escape. Fabulous.
But he still had a job to do back at Groznyj Grad. With the C3 EVA gave him, Snake planted explosives around the base while EVA found her way into Volgin's secret vault to get the Legacy. Unfortunately, Volgin found her sneaking around at exactly that moment and brought her and Ocelot to the Shagohod hanger. He discovered Tatyana was a spy and that she had the microfilm on her. Before Volgin could kill EVA, The Boss offered to execute EVA herself, took the microfilm, and told Volgin about the C3.
While Volgin and Snake had a "once in a lifetime battle," wherein Ocelot was a nerdy cheerleader, The Boss was only getting EVA out of harms way. Having been one of her teachers at the Philosopher's charm school, The Boss had seen through her Tatyana disguise fairly quickly. She told EVA her life story, explained her role in Operation Snake Eater, and made EVA promise not to kill Snake.
EVA met with Snake outside the hanger after the explosion (somehow getting all that information from The Boss in a few short minutes) and the two took down the Shagohod together. Twice. And Volgin. As they made their final escape, EVA drove into a tree and impaled herself on a tree branch. With Para-Medic's help, Snake patched her up and carried her through the rest of the labyrinth of a forest. EVA made herself comfy in the WIG they had planned to escape in while Snake and The Boss had the saddest battle ever. The Boss passed the microfilm and her gun to Snake.
Snake made it to the WIG safely and they took off after an embarrassing meet up with Ocelot while EVA nearly crashed into mountains. EVA and Snake made it back to America safely, hunkering down in an Alaskan safe house. They spent the night together, although Snake woke up to find EVA gone. However, she had left a tape behind for him.
She repeated to him nearly everything The Boss had told her during their few moments together. She explained the true meaning of The Boss' mission, as well as his. She told him about herself; she was a Chinese spy raised by the Philosopher's sent to take the Legacy back from Volgin. She told him The Boss made her promise not to kill him.
While Snake was being named Big Boss, EVA made her way back to China. The microfilm she had taken, however, was a fake. Ocelot had somehow made off with half of the real Legacy and took it back to America (because he was a triple spy or something). The Chinese People's Liberation Army found out about EVA's mistake and she was stripped of her reputation and exiled from China. She disappeared to Hanoi to brood.
Meanwhile, everyone else was doing their own junk. Ocelot secured the other half of the Legacy while Big Boss was captured in a place called San Heironymo and beat up a bunch of dudes and a Metal Gear, then sort of formed FOXHOUND with Roy Campbell. Sometime in 1971, Big Boss came to Hanoi and found EVA. He asked her to join an organization called the Patriots, a reimagined and reorganized version of the American Philosopher's using funds from the Legacy that Big Boss and Major Zero had formed together. She agreed, of course, wanting to carry out The Boss' vision. During that time, she recorded tapes for Big Boss, detailing more of what she knew about The Boss. She chickened out, however, and didn't give them to him.
Quickly, everyone involved began to realize that Zero and Big Boss had two totally different ideas. It had been decided that the group would somehow govern the world from behind the scenes. However, Zero was a little whacked out with power and turned Big Boss into a figure for the world to follow. Big Boss resented his role and their interpretations of The Boss' will were dramatically different.
In 1972, Big Boss fell into a coma during a battle, and Zero decided it would be a good idea to make super soldiers from Big Boss' DNA. EVA volunteered to be the surrogate mother, and birthed the Twin Snakes, Solid Snake and Liquid Snake. When Big Boss came to, he was not particularly happy about the Les Enfants Terribles. He left the Patriots and FOXHOUND and created his own mercenary group in order to carry out The Boss' dying wish. EVA and Ocelot stayed in the group, although EVA began to drift away and Ocelot stayed to keep an eye on them for EVA.
Meanwhile, Zero, Dr. Clark, and Donald Anderson- the other members of the Patriots- continued to lose their minds and go out of control with power. In an attempt to get Big Boss to rejoin the Patriots, Zero and the other Patriots (under the name "Cipher") contacted a couple of dudes and initiated the Peace Walker Project and caused the Peace Walker Incident, a series of military battles between the CIA Peace Sentinels and the Militaires Sans Frontieres in 1974. MSF was Big Boss' mercenary group he created with Kazuhira Miller. Although EVA wasn't really involved in the PW Incident, she had sent Big Boss those tapes she had recorded in 1971.
Obviously, Cipher's plan to get Big Boss to rejoin was a failure. But the Snakes were Zero's insurance and as time went on after the PW incident, the Patriots continued to gain power and control in the United States. MSF evolved into Outer Heaven, Big Boss' true interpretation of The Boss' will. By that time, Big Boss was starting to go a little loopy himself. In 1995, rookie FOXHOUND agent Solid Snake was lured into Outer Heaven to "rescue" Gray Fox. Snake destroyed Outer Heaven and the Metal Gear Big Boss had built. Gray Fox disappeared with Big Boss and the two formed Zanzibar Land. Snake came in and foiled their plans yet again and killed both of them. Er... well...
The Patriots recovered the bodies of both Gray Fox and Big Boss. Big Boss was injected with nanomachines and was left in an eternal coma, while Dr. Clark experimented on Gray Fox's remains and eventually turned him into a cyborg ninja. At that point, EVA and Ocelot joined forces and devised a plot to defect and take out the rest of the Patriots. They enlisted Dr. Naomi Hunter and Gray Fox to kill Dr. Clark, and Ocelot killed Donald Anderson himself during the Shadow Moses Incident. Zero went into hiding and created proxy-AIs in an attempt to keep the Patriots as an influence in the world. Also Ocelot's hand was cut off and they replaced it with (the now deceased) Liquid Snake's arm.
EVA went into hiding after Shadow Moses, but kept a close watch on Ocelot and Solid Snake. Zero staged the Manhattan Tanker Incident in an attempt to steal the Marines' Metal Gear RAY prototype, but Liquid possessed Ocelot and made off with RAY, sinking the tanker. Not long after that, Ocelot escaped to a school in Final Destination City.
EVA followed him there soon afterwards and was surprised to find Solid Snake and his partner Dr. Emmerich were there too. She mostly stayed out of their way, forging shallow relationships with both of them. As it turns out, the Ocelot she had followed to the school was a fake, and the real Ocelot showed up a few months later. That was... um... distressing. She became the school's librarian and maintained a low profile while keeping an eye on Snake. Other than Snake and Ocelot, however, EVA was able to make a few meaningful relationships. Notably, a small girl named Vianca, a large man named Goroh, and a young man named Raiden. There was also this thing where she is able to look 27 again somewhere in there.
Suddenly, without saying anything, EVA disappeared. Nothing was getting done and Zero was still out there. Ocelot wasn't around much and nothing of interest seemed to be happening. She went to Alaska. She stayed in that same damn safe house from so many years ago. She spent six months there, clearing her head and figuring her life out. In her near-two years at Smash Academy, nothing of interest had happened. Zero was still nowhere to be found.
She returned to the school, drawn back to Vianca, Ocelot, and her son, Snake. Perhaps she'd reconnect with Ocelot and find Zero together. Well those plans were thrown at the window as soon as she arrived. She was met with a telepathic message from a stranger, warning her about Russians. Strange. She'd never been able to be contacted telepathically before. As it turns out, she had been contacted by the Pokemon God in regards to Volgin and Raikov who had ... time travelled. Ocelot was there, too. The three of them had time travelled (or in Volgin's case, risen from the dead) to Smash Academy, seemingly, to make her life miserable.
Shortly after, she had a talk with Snake. She revealed herself to him, telling him about Les Enfants and The Patriots. Overwhelmed with time travelling drama and mommy drama, EVA took a vacation to clear her head again. Soon, The Boss appeared and disappeared without much going on. Volgin thankfully left, Snake left, Ocelot left, Raiden experienced things from the past that hadn't happened as far as she was concerned, and Otacon seemed to have forgotten about the Tanker Incident entirely. EVA chalked it up to alternate universes. She also began to suspect Liquid was at the school, disguised as Kazuhira Miller. She took another vacation.
This time, EVA visited New York. The same place Raiden had gone over his break. Big Shell had came and went before EVA got there, and EVA quickly learned things had gone down fairly similarly to how Raiden had described them to her in the library. She discovered, at some point and somehow, that Zero's health was deteriorating and that the AIs he had crafted were pretty much running what remained of the Patriots agenda. Ocelot had discontinued contact with EVA, and she fled to Europe for a month in an attempt to find Zero and put an end to his AI network.
When that didn't work out, she turned her attention to Smash Academy again. Maybe she could get help from Dr. Emmerich and Raiden...
Anything Else?:
Nope.

EVA's favorite teapot was one she had picked up during her time in Vietnam. It was small enough that it could be a little girl's, and rather simple looking. A dark red ceramic exterior and a metal lid, handle, and spout. She wasn't big on tea before coming to Smash Academy, but it was something she had been turned onto at some point. She'd developed a particular fondness for decaffeinated green teas.
When she got her key to her dorm, the first thing she removed from her small box of personal items was the teapot. After her long trip back to the school, she wanted nothing more than to relax. She removed the lid and filled the pot halfway with hot water, covered it again and put it in the microwave. Next, she got out a glass and dropped a green tea teabag inside. As she waited for the whistle of the teapot, she began to unpack a few of her other possessions. Her gun, which she carefully placed in her nightstand drawer. Letters and notes from people who were important to her, she stashed in her closet. The tape recorder she had begun to use as a journal, she set on the bed.
From the other room, the loud whistle drew her back to the kitchen. She grabbed the hot teapot from the microwave and shakily poured enough hot water over the teabag. When she was finished, she emptied the teapot, dried it and set it back on the stove. When she was finished, she took the warm glass with her into the bedroom area and set it on her nightstand. She carefully situated herself in the bed, grabbed the glass and the tape recorder that sat beside her pillow. She pressed record, and let it record her silence as she leisurely sipped at her tea. After 3 minutes were up, she spoke.
"I guess I'm back here. Again..."
