I don't really *like* New Year's Eve. The same goes for Halloween.

I think I had a conversation about this with digfarenough a while back. i don't know...i spent New Year's Eve with Patty, Eric, and Kyle playing board games and chatting. Yeah it was fun, but it wasn't something all out and glamorous.

When I was little it was fun staying up til midnight. When I was a teenager/young college student I went to all night parties, coming home at noon and crashing until 6pm. Now? I didn't have any plans until the day before.

So..yeah, i think the high expectations don't really exist that much anymore. People do all kinds of things on nights like these, including sitting at home and watching a movie or even going to bed early, which are all acceptable.

One of my best New Year's Eves was senior year of high school. My beau and two of his friends brought their dates to the house of one of their parents (who'd cleared out for the night). There we each got a rose and the guys cooked dinner for us. Afterwards we stayed up and watched the ball drop. It was cozy and romantic and delightful, but not in the least swank, ritzy, or drunk. New Year's doesn't have to be 1000 people dancing in the streets. It can be a few good friends.
