A note, slipped under John's office door at the university, Saturday queennomore February 4 2006, 08:49:30 UTC
John,

I looked at a newspaper.

I'm a little shellshocked.

I'm sorry I accused you of playing games with me.

If you're still willing to speak to me... I could use a friend. My number is 552-3276.

Susan

"John, this is Susan. Thank you, I'd love to meet up with you. I'm working at city hall now... perhaps we could meet for lunch?"

John sounds pleased. "Susan, hello. City Hall, you said? I have to be in my office at one o'clock to meet with students on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Perhaps tomorrow we could meet?"

"Tomorrow would be grand, John. Where shall we meet?"

"Perhaps on the front steps of City Hall would be best. I have a few ideas for places in the area. My treat, of course."

"Ten? Keep the Chinese food warm for me. I'm in a little bit of trouble. I'm at the boys' shop in the Flats...someone's tampered with my car. Yazoo will bring me home as soon as he can. I love you."

"Hi John, it's me, Anita... Wait, you can likely tell my voice by now." She sighs "I was hoping we could meet up for coffee or something tomorrow. I have class from one til about 5:30, but, let me know." Her voice drops slightly, but you can hear the smile in her words, "Hope you're week is going well."

A familiar, but rather quiet voice speaks quickly:

"Professor MacDiarmid, it's Carol Fitzpatrick. Look, CJ got an emailed threat in her personal mail...not the city hall account. She's laying down right now and asked me to call you because, um, I haven't seen her like this in a long time, Doctor. She's angry. Like set fire to the room angry. Ok, well, if you can't swing past city hall, could you at least call her? I think it'll help."
