After what had happened to her yesterday, Ten wasn't particularly thrilled with the idea of letting CJ just go off to work. Eliciting promises to keep her eyes open, he worriedly settled back into bed, getting up in time to prep for his lunch with Susan Pevensie ((link forthcoming ( Read more... )

When Kadaj found out what happened, he blew to pieces, but in the way that had Loz and Yazoo on edge. He was furious and it sunk, deep into a calm demeanor of tight lines around his mouth. It was the calm that worried them.

And he wouldn't stop his fretting over CJ.

They closed the shop early, none of them able to really concentrate and Kadaj decided to go to CJ's apartment. He wanted to see with his own eyes, that she was okay.

Only then...would he be satisfied.

They raced across the city and stashed their bikes safely. Perhaps they should have waited for nightfall but Kadaj was impatient. Besides, if they picked their way up the building just right...no one would see them.

When they landed on her patio, there was a light on inside and they were heartened. Perhaps she stayed home. But they dared go no further when, in looking through the sliding glass doors, they could see him.

Being non-human, the Doctor has sensitive hearing, and so he heard the light landing on the patio. Freezing up, he pretends to read another page or two, but his brow furrows, and he flicks his gaze around the room--there's a chair, there the poker for the fireplace--before glancing out the window.

The silver hair is a giveaway. Closing the book, he sets it on the couch and stands up, going to open one of the doors. Immediately, the cold wind at this height blows back his hair. "She went to work," he says, standing in the doorway, subconsciously defensive and yet conveying worry in his tone. "Did you want to wait?"

None of the brothers smiled but Kadaj stepped forward and strode into the room, brushing past Ten. "Why did she go to work? She should have stayed home," he said softly.

Loz and Yazoo followed behind their brother, allowing Ten room to shut the sliding glass door.

"She wouldn't listen to me," Ten replies simply, shutting the door and moving only slightly back into the room. He leans against the wall and watches them closely.

The door opens and slams closed, and the sound of shoes flying into the closet come from the foyer. Sharp steps of bare feet walk into the kitchen, while she mutters under her breath, "Damn Bruce and his damned ideas needing more security Christ I'm not Jed, I'm just a fucking mayor not the queen of..." she stops talking to herself when she sees them all assembled and her jaw drops. "Uh, hi."

They heard her come in, heard her slam around, heard her cursing and talking to herself. Shifting a bit, they turned when she was in the living room and Loz stood when she entered.

"Hey," Kadaj said. His gaze was sharp and fixed on her, raking down her body to ensure all body parts were there and she was okay and unharmed.

Ten turns and looks up. "Hey," he echoes and smiles a little. "Bad day?" Out of respect for the brothers, he decides it might not be the best idea to get up and give her a kiss.

She rolls her eyes and walks around the couch, flopping down and kicking her feet up onto Ten's lap.

"Bruce. I hired him as security and now? He's driving me insane. I told him about the car, and what all of you said and guess what he's doing tomorrow? Interviewing a new security crew for me. And...AND...I can't seem to get myself home all right, he had to bring me home. It makes me feel like this is really serious and I should be afraid and God I just can't do that again suffocated."

She sighs heavily and lays her head back, looking at the ceiling. Her temper is fading fast and it's obvious she's trying hard not to think about why any of this is actually necessary.
