~The Questions~
In your own words, describe what a rival is to you: a rival would be someone who I believe in a certain aspect, would have what I have, and good at what I'm good at, possessing the abilities that I would admit more or less equal to my own. And in terms of principles, he or she would probably feel like another version of myself. And there's a sense of acknowledgment for that person at the same time flames and smiles to want to beat that person on the same playing field. I see a rival as the added source of motivation, a fantastic challenge, and someone that is worth the recognition of ever having been thought of as a rival.
Personality-wise, what do and don't you like in a person?
I enjoy it finding in a person someone who is mature, caring, with strong confidence and cool-headedness even with a touch of arrogance, doing everything with a clear goal in mind. I like someone who's clever and outspoken, someone who is responsive and can be willful and determined enough to take on anything he or she wants to in life. I also value the selflessness, non-judgmental attitude, kindness and openness in the friendly people that I see - though realistic selfishness also has a strong place with me where it counts. And of course, there are also the crazy ones, the ones who seem to live life to the fullest, adventurous, daring and never thought of slowing down.
Things I don't like in a person, I see little need for people who like to belittle other people's dreams or even their own, or say that things can't be done and come up with many reasons why that's so. I take little stock on people who could not stand to see others happy. And I dislike irresponsibility shown with regards to other people.
What kind of person can you see as a good rival? Pretty much, someone who can make me stand up and take notice. As a general rule, a good rival for me would be someone with strong values and the unmistakable aura to succeed. There's a high chance that I would like this person, but as a rival, I'll try my best to always be the one to win one over him. We won't necessarily be the best of friends, but conversationally, we'll do alright. To put it better, it'll be admiration with an edge between us, with words ranging from mildly polite to the occasional heated stalemate. When it comes down to it, either of us would do what is necessary to get ahead. I myself am not above teasing or firing people up, but I won't lose my moral grounds to the likes of anyone. I'll be competitive so long as it's good for me.
What things are you physically and mentally good at?
Well, I've always been physically athletic, good at basketball, really trying my best at tennis, I'm good at netball, I'm also very good at snooker and pool and I enjoy running sometimes for the pleasure of it. Mentally, I'm good at chess. Chess seems to be a hobby with me, though I'm not the type to know every single move or whether it has a name for it. I also tend to think in images, so visually, I'm strong in that sense.
What things are you physically and mentally not good at?
Physically.. none? Well, any extreme sports, I suppose. I'm sure there are other things. And possibly cooking. Mentally, ah, chess again. And I'm practical as a person but to myself I can be irrational because of the things I want done. And I guess I'm no good at paying attention in things I have no interest in, that obviously includes studying or reading unhealthy amount of words that isn't even close to exciting.
Using tennis as a example:
a) How would you react if you had to work with someone you considered a rival in a doubles game between (say) the Golden Pair? My initial response would be to look at my rival and go 'omg, haha. Bloody hell, isn't this something?' A rival should honestly stay a rival, so don't joke with us about something like that. But if such a thing were to take place, I could only imagine we'd be unstoppable (given that we are very much talented as tennis players to take on the golden pair or what have you). There is always some thing far more important than rivalry, and I can trust my rival to understand that as well, as much as I myself would try to. We would co-operate to the best of our abilities, since both of us will be mature and selfish enough to think that winning is everything. And just for that moment, I think I'll have a blast, too, if only for the reason we're unbeatable at that point.
b) How would you react/feel if you lost to your rival in a singles game? Mad, agitated, happy for the game, sad for having lost, bitter, simply isn't done. I'll take it in good conscience, promise to see that there will be a next time, another chance to fight this off between us. And in a way, it's also how well we play the game that matters to me. If it was spectacular, with heart-thumping runs and crazy saves, I should be nothing short of proud that I can manage such a feat. Something along the lines of one great player won't give birth to a great game? haha I'm quoting HikaGo now. I definitely wouldn't let my rival win next time. For now, congratulate that person for being outstanding as always and call it a day.
I'm glad I managed to make it before May is over. x) Thank you in advance for the votes!
