Mochi is very sticky and somewhat tricky to eat. After each new year, it is reported in the Japanese media how many people die from choking on mochi.

That reminds me of the mini-cup jelly snakcs that were popular a few years ago but got banned for being a choking hazard. They got the cool nickname "mouthful of death" which just made them seem way cooler to me.
