I'm not sure where to get Mochi here. I had a half arsed idea to spend tomorrow bimbling along the 'alternative' street poking in the 'ethnic' stores. I think this might have made my mind up.

Check the freezers, they can be stored there. Make sure you get some that you just defrost though, I tried some that required boiling and they came out weird.
