If you can find it, I like instant yeast. Put a teaspoon in with the dry ingredients, no activating required. You keep the rest in the freezer, good for at least a year.
Oh yeah, I had instant yeast for the breadmaker, but it mostly comes in individual sachets which annoyed me so I got a bag from the healthfood store. After a year in fridge it wasn't very active anymore. Freezing didn't occur to me.
