I intend to be part of rebuilding this city. I realize that we're still trying to save it and the people left there, but to those who are saying it's a lost cause, I say fuck you

I'll train you in my new Crutch-fu style that I'm working on. If your crutches should become comprimised, you switch to my new itching cast foot palm style. This style relies on balance and leg strength...one leg strength, and on flexibility of the leg attached to the casted foot in order to use the cast to block punches...when I get good, I am positive it will stop bullets.

Those who recieve insurance money for New Orleans property that is damaged and who do not use it to restore that property are going to be the biggest challenge, but they will leave behind buildings that are cheap and the people who come back can buy them and restore them and make them better. There are no resources in NOLA, and some of the residents are going to have to go elsewhere for a little while, but most are doing so with the idea of building resources elsewhere, and then bringing those resources back to NOLA. I have faith in New Orleans. As soon as I get this damned cast off my foot, I will be there to help you guys clean up.
a couple of days ago, i thought i was too scared to go back. now, i feel exactly the opposite. my determination to go back and rebuild and help in whatever ways i can grows with every minute.

Hastert wasn't the only one questioning the rebuilding of New Orleans. The Waterbury, Conn., Republican-American newspaper wrote an editorial Wednesday entitled, "Is New Orleans worth reclaiming?"
"Americans' hearts go out to the people in Katrina's path," it said. "But if the people of New Orleans and other low-lying areas insist on living in harm's way, they ought to accept responsibility for what happens to them and their property."
This is typical. Those fuckers never wanted to spend a dime to help coastal areas in Louisiana prepare for this type of catastrophic event, or to mitigate the effects of such a hurricane. We've known this was coming for years, and for at least a decade the state has begged the Federal government non-stop for help, with little success
