It was good, I enjoyed it. They made some decisions that I mostly understand. Changed some things from the book. Very violent. If you take your kids to it I will FedEx you a nutpunch and you will deserve it. Jackie Earl Haley (as Rorschach) was great. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (as The Comedian) was only slightly less than great. I think that ( Read more... )

On the squick-o-meter, was the violence more silly (Army of Darkness) or realistic (Pan's Labyrinth)? I ask because sysd hates torture porn, and he never quite got over the bottle scene.

I don't know what "the bottle scene" refers to, unless you're talking about the scene in the Watchmen comic (and movie) where the Comedian gets his scar.

The violence was not comical or silly.

I quite liked it, although they might have renamed it "Attack of the Giant Blue Penis".

Some asshole brought three kids, ages about 6ish 8ish 9ish. I wanted to say something like "How are you going to explain to your children about the BLUE MAN'S PENIS THAT THEY KEEP SHOWING?"

Like they'd understand the plot anyway.

When are you going to let Jimmy read the comic?

I'm kinda surprised that the big objection for the kids here seems to be 'OMG there's a penis' and not the large amounts of graphic violence, dismemberments, blood, gore or the actual sex scenes.

Speaking as a father, I think I'd have a much easier time explaining to my daughter 'boys have a penis and girls have a vagina' - something she's known since her little brother was born - than deal with the nightmares from watching a man's arms get buzz-sawed off. I really have to wonder at why that's seen as the biggest issue here.

But agreed - anyone who took a 6 year old to see that movie needs a serious nutpunch.

I'm not sure when I'll let him read the comic. Not this year. Maybe next year.
