Fuck. Wow, this was so believable. I could see it all in my head and see them having this type of interaction. And in the end, when Eames is playing a part but everything still feels real to him... Damn, what a situation.
What an exquisite fic. I love how this could not have ended any other way -- the essence of tragedy, really; fatal flaws conspiring to a heart-breaking and not wholly deserved outcome -- Arthur's being his all-consuming skepticism (altho' each ones's fatal flaw is also their greatest strength.) I can't quite pity Eames, but I sure feel for him -- your writing is too poignant and lyrical not to.
