Mom and John are watching collateral...and I'm half listening. It has porno music o_O
Shopping at the food store was fun. I saw william. He was buying some big, long, heavy thing. I got stuff for mom's chili and some fruit. And a coconut.

Nah, you did the right thing. Unfortunately, even though we'd like to trust people we meet and be nice to them, it's not always the wisest move these days.

Mm, yeah. My parents never give money to people who ask for it on the street, although I feel bad about it a lot. I'd say never, never give someone a ride. That's just too risky. It was good of you to give him the $4, though. I really think I would have freaked out and gotten away from there quickly. I don't know... maybe if he really needed it he would have gone to an organization that could have helped him, or not a teenage boy. An adult.

If you're reasonably not-tired and capable of self defense a ride is not entirely unthinkable.

It's not unthinkable for a 17 year-old girl to give a random man a ride to Manassas?

That was the generic "you", not you specifically; if anything, it was directed at Jeff. More to the point, my definition of "reasonably capable of self defense" would generally include things like not being a 17 year old girl (which Jeff is not) and being armed (unless you have some kind of crazy martial arts skills, but as those are not worth much in a car, I would go with being armed). Granted that you would also have to check the person for weapons, since if he pulled something on you in a car you'd be basically screwed. But if he's unarmed and sitting in the corner of the car opposite you, and you have ready access to a weapon that you're comfortable using, it is plausible.

So yeah. It is unthinkable for a 17 year old girl to give a random man a ride to Manassas; please don't. But if in four years you've taken self-defense classes and are carrying a .357 in your purse, that'd be different.

Yeah, me and Julie gave money to this woman in DC who wanted bus fare, because she got evicted and wanted to move her stuff, but we didn't give money to this other scary guy who looked like he was making up his story. And if we gave everyone we passed money on the way to work, we would have gone broke. I can't really say if you did the right thing or not, but it probably wasn't a bad thing. If he remebers you after he has purchased his bloodshot eye creatign chemical, then he shall think of you fondly.

How do you open/peel/eat coconut? I remember buying one a long time ago, but it was death trying to open it and once it was open, (and by open I mean had a couple finger-sized cracks in it) no one could figure out how to get the meat off the shell. So I figure I wouldn't go through all that trouble again. :) But! Love coconut.
