I've been noticing this trend also... mostly when my brother told me HE liked it. o.O' Haven't given it a watch yet, mainly because I only watch up to an hour of TV/Hulu a night... and I'm currently working my way through One Piece... funny enough, also because of my brother.

My mom watches a lot of kids shows when she's working in her room/as background noise. She basically explained it as... the world is full of adult issues/concepts that you're forced to deal with all day long. It's nice to infuse some child-like innocence/lessons into your life every now and again.

*adds Ponies to her list-o-shows to watch at some point*

I'd not go in with an OMG this is great expectation, but its pretty good. First two episodes kind of set out the characters. Many of the plots are pretty standard stuff, but executed nicely. There are probably one or two that are particularly good (one such IMO is linked in the comments). :)

The last point you made is kind of a thing with me too. I like to think a lot of those lessons we teach kids are appropriate as adults, but adults just find ways to rationalize themselves out of following them.
