Snow this late in October is not unheard of (in our area) at all - especially the wet snow that was forecasted/(fell by you). It has even flurried in early October then warmed up a week later. I'm not too surprised.
Here in the Catskills we are definitely no stranger to snow in October....but I must say today has been extreme LOL...tho I am sure some old timers can remember something similar to it in the past. Over a foot of snow has fallen, power has been going on and off all day, trees and lines down everywhere and the kids are probably looking at another snow day again tomorrow. Hopefully it will all be melted by Friday...I really don't want to go trick or treating climbing over snowbanks.
Hey, I didn't know you lived this close (well, at least in the same viewing area). ;) You guys got like 14 in., right? I saw it on the news earlier. I'm definitely not saying that today was "typical" or "normal" but it's certainly not unheard of. Perhaps the fact that we used to regularly get snow in early October, when I attended Penn State, makes it seem that much less of a "wow" factor for me.
Ooh, I hope you don't lose power. I do like when we get this sort of snow. The kind that may even close school or at the very least, looks pretty but is all melted a day or so later - like a late March storm.
O/T - *Waves* It's good to see you around! Hope all is well. :D
Hehe yup just a few hours north of you. Ya we got about a foot but some places (like where my sister lives..haha) got around 2 feet! The kiddies are happy...they have another snow day.
Hmm October snows around here going by memory usually are a dusting or an inch or two. The big out of season snowstorms usually happen on the other side of winter...in April or May.

Ya never know, ya know? Some people take the term "global warming" literally and think that warmer temps are the only part of climate change.
We've got frost on the ground right now in central NC and a hard freeze is predicted tonight.
