No real words

How many people have to be shot before there is gun regulation? Thankful for quick-thinking teachers, praying for all the parents and children, and for the first responders. What a horrible thing. I hope I'm never so hardened so as not to weep for the loss of life. If that is coherent.

Bless you all.

This. Bracing myself for the wave of gun-hoarding idiots who will bray on and on about how it's 'not the time!!!' to discuss this and 'guns don't kill people, people do!!!'

Yeah, well, it's a hell of a lot easier to kill 16 people with a gun then it is a bat or a knife.

I hope, though, that this sparks a *serious* discussion about not only gun control but the horrifically awful mental health services in most of the US.

As a parent, this is just...extra horrifying, because you can't help thinking 'what if'.

Did you see the President's remarks on this? He was all but breaking down at the podium.

Yes. I love him. This is not what the Founders intended---30 people per day killed by gun violence.

My husband runs a site and some ass posted something along the lines that obviously having stronger gun laws would not make a difference since 20 children were attacked with a knife in China.

My husband pointed out that while horrible, the children all survived. They were wounded.

The victims in Connecticut? All dead.

Exactly. Horrible things happen, but guns just make horrible things easier to spread around, and tend to make them much more fatal for all involved.

I haven't watched it. I can't. There have been five publicized incidents over the last two weeks of gun violence, and I can't watch anymore. I can't, for my own mental health, I won't look at this ( ... )

I gave my gun back to my brother years ago. I am knitting a comfort blankie---a yarn store is coordinating prayer shawl/comfort shawls to be sent to Newtown. It's something I can do.

Gun regulation exists BUT - there is no required background check for a private gun sale, online gun sales or gun sales at shows. Approximately 40% of the guns used in violent acts are bought through these channels. I believe that requiring every single person who who legally buys a gun to submit to a background check will help reduce gun violence.
