So my parcel from Amazon UK has arrived but instead of getting it delivered to my office as usual it was kept at the post-office and is now with the customs department. I sent a driver to pick it up but he came back empty handed saying that they are keeping my stuff at least until tomorrow because they want to watch the movies in case there is

Just a quick question though, if homosexuality is illegal, does that go for women too? And how do they know anyway, do they raid people's bedrooms or something? Or is it all about; your neighbour said that she saw you holding hands with someone of your own gender, you are busted?

Advisory: Homosexual activity between consenting adult males is illegal in Sri Lanka. Vestiges of antiquated (1883) colonial sodomy laws remain, allowing for punishment of up to 12 years in jail. Lesbianism was not mentioned in law until 1995 when a bunch of men in government criminalized lesbian acts as "sadism". While the law is not being currently enforced, its existence has allowed for official discrimination and societal stigma towards homosexuals. Local gay activists are working to bring the law into the 21st century.

As it says the law isn't really being used but I guess it discourages people from coming out (as does traditions, social stigma etc). It is quite common here to see two men holding hands or dancing etc. so I guess it's pretty hard to know who goes that extra step when they're home alone!

One of my colleagues is a lesbian and lives with her Sri Lankan girlfriend - so I guess it's not like the police are knocking down doors... in reality it's more just frowned upon.

Yeah, any 'unnatural acts' between two men or women are illegal - I was just discussing this with a colleague and we have decided that I should go to the custom's department and explain that to gay people it is not unnatural and that many animals do it... Besides, I'm not participating in anything, I just want to watch so technically I'm completely within the law. hehe, that should get me my movies back in no time!

PS. For the record I think it's a really terrible law for which there is no excuse at all.

That's interesting! Bet they're Colin fans! But at least you know where your stuff is. When me and my family lived in South Africa it could take months for mail to reach us, I think my mom sent a letter to Finland and it took over a year to get here. So it worked both ways. Where do they keep mail for such a long time?

A Home At the End of the World is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good! I think it's Colin's best work. Tigerland wasn't bad either, don't know if you've seen it but it has a part where they teach how to torture prisoners who are being interrogated so maybe thats the training part of it. Brief and quite tame scene though.

Hope you get your stuff! I'm bouncing coz I found out yesterday that Alatriste a Spanish movie with Vig is coming out on dvd here next month!!!!!

Yes, I do know where my stuff is being held hostage, I suppose thats always something instead of it disappearing into thin air. I have told my family to never send me parcels (not for Christmas or Birthdays etc) because I once spent half a day clearing a bunch of cookies and a bra from customs. However, with Amazon i have had no problems - they normally come through regular post and just gets delivered directly to my office. I don't know if they have increased security or it's because it arrived on a holiday when no one was in the office to accept it but it sure sucks.

I saw AHATEOTW a while back and liked it a lot - but back then I didn't have a crush on CF so I want to see it again and notice him properly *grins*.
