Okay, A LOT of a fangeek/nerd.
Canon gave us X-Files posters on his walls by his computer. He ran a website at mechatopia.com for a few years, which collected and discussed evidence of the presence of giant alien robots on Earth (described therein as "extra-vehicular activity").

Cassie from Hack/Slash was made in 2004, but it's a bit more underground.
Jericho is of Teen Titans, which was originally in the 80s, so go for it?

Teen Titans, I think, is at least going on the "general recognition" list. As I said to Squee, I'm not sure the animated show is one he would have watched consistently (and hell, -I- need to finish watching it), but you don't always have to see a show, play a game or watch a movie to recognize characters from them. I could see him making a comment about how it wasn't like the comics and then dropping the subject just after, not wanting to sound like an idiot. XD;

Larry is fair game, as well as Squall. Feel free to accidentally call him Leon (his KH incarnation).
Kind of prefer him not to mention Pyramid Head.

I don't really see Hunter as the horror movie/game type, though, so probably safe to assume he's not really all that familiar with the various SH games. He'll still scream and run from PH like any sane person should, though. LOL

It would be interesting if Hunter eventually told him that he uh, didn't finish his update. That he was saved from Time Compression and all. (Though there's every chance that would just piss him off more, IDK.) THERE COULD BE PLOTTINGS THERE.

So he could've stumbled on it if he felt geeky enough.
