Teachers have more guts, higher pain thresholds, and deeper wells of compassion and sorrow than almost anyone gives them credit for.

My friend (who you don't know) yourmuse had one of her students shot in November (er, I think that's actually a locked post). I remember having friends killed when I was growing up -- I was so much more resilient then.
