Tomorrow it will be 80 degrees. We're busy getting the campground ready for the season. Many sticks and branches to pick up from the winter. The river really did some ( Read more... )

When would be a good time to shoot down for a visit and see you, the kiddies and your new place? I'm anxious to see how good it turned out. The last time I saw it, it was just a bunch of boards nailed together.

Holy crap that sold fast. Consider yourself lucky though, you are lucky to sell that bugger as fast as you did! Did you get what you were asking for it? I hope you did!

Wait- you'll be based in Mich, then?

Yes.... it was the last Auction year. BK told me... still talk via e-mail now-and-then. Do you know why?

I am guessing that the return on the investment is probably lower. It takes a lot to run a 5-hour-a-night television show for a week, probably fewer people calling, huge segmentation of the audience due to cable, compared to 30 years ago, etc. Probably a lot of reasons, the chief being that it just doesn't pull in as much dough.

They moved to a lot of canned pledge drives, too with automated phone systems.

Yeah, I just emailed Mr. Kinney today. He informed me that Dick is also retiring in the next week or so.

I realized on the way home that I started volunteering for WKAR in 1987 or 88... 2004 was my last time as an Auction host. I spent a heck of a lot of time working on stuff there- high school volunteer, contestant on "Quizbusters," student production employee, pledge/auction on-air host. Very weird.
